Human Nature is an exploration of an interest in sustainability, use of natural materials and representative organic form language, conceptualized in an off road running shoe.
I wanted the materials to lead the focus of this product visualization, so I started by designing 5 texture and colorway fabrications, emulating natural and renewable resources.
this collection of 5 fabrications were procedurally designed with texture and displacement nodes in Blender. With reference to high definition drone photography, I fine tuned hyper detailed surfacing and demonstrated depth through a use of a highly saturated tonal range of color, as if one was creating an oil painting, using color and tone to emulate 3D form in a 2D medium.
Lava Rock, Red Clay, Forrest Moss, Mycelium and Algae, designed before the product itself influenced me to create individual character traits of what would eventually be color and material rather than the conventional disconnected nature used in the application of color and material paired with its volume.
These concepts were based on a statement of “An uncompromising use of natural material.”
I in no way wanted the rich natural beauty that surrounds us to be distilled down to an oxymoron such as “vegan leather” where the effort of research and innovation driven by passion can not be seen in the final product itself.
(The final result will resemble the natural shape of the human foot emersed within its environment. The initial form exploration in my ideation phase feature mono-structure hybridized silhouettes of HUMAN and NATURE which I will next realize by integrating realistic functional elements of footwear.)
