Quick project for an Instagram contest, directed to use “digital tools“.
As an avid runner, this project inspired me to design a running shoe. Familiar with this terrain I developed my thoughts in Illustrator.
I wanted to see how I would be able to apply a digitally generated pattern to a functional midsole tech. In collaboration with my computer, we arrived on a concept that I could expand upon rather than relying on an algorithm to dictate the function and design of the shoe.
The midsole is made of an amorphous PU compound contained by a molded TPU netting that gives the “GEL” it’s shape.
Upon the impact of the runner’s ground strike, the “GEL” reacts!, expanding in all directions, absorbing the kinetic energy and rebounding it back up to your foot to propel the runner forward.
I see this midsole compound as if BOOST and SILLY PUTTY had a baby!
